    How to remove Phosphates

I have 150 gal reef tank and the red algae is starting to accumulate. I'm pretty sure my phosphates are high so want to reduce that in the tank, I had used the Thrive liquid phosphate remover in the past, but that is no longer available. What do you recommend?

Adding live anemones, frags and coral to artificial reef tank

I have a 3 yr old 6 ft tall, 28" diameter acrylic cylinder tank with an artificial reef insert going thru the center (from top to bottom). I have 2 AI LED light banks on the top. Right now I have some fish + inverts, but want to start adding some anemones, coral and frags to give it more color +...

Slimey water on top of reef tank

ok, can you recommend a good powerhead for that? The tank is a 27.5 diameter acrylic cylinder, 150 gal. Everything would have to be mounted inside thanks

Slimey water on top of reef tank

No, I don't think it from the food as the slimey film seems to be in there all the time.

Slimey water on top of reef tank

I have a 6ft high 150 gal cylinder artificial reef tank that filters to a live rock sump in my basement. I also have a reef octopus skimmer in the sump. The tank has good circulation but the water on the very top is very slimey/bubbly, in fact its almost like oily spots in the water. What can I...

    Durso pipe gurgles

Thanks. So I had originally closed the drain pipe some to raise the water level. Should I open it up all the way now, just a little or leave it same? I just keep lowering the tube into the durso pipe hole until its quiet? I assume I tie the other end first so I can play with it

    Durso pipe gurgles

Thanks. Questions on option 2. 1) So one end of the tubing goes into the hole in the top of durso pipe. Do I push the end of that tubing down until it hits the water (and possibly lower) or is it supposed to stop before hitting water 2)The other end of the tubing that gets zipped tied to the...

    Durso pipe gurgles

I would be fine with that as well... but for some reason closing the valve a bit to get the water level above my durso elbow pipe cause the tank to overflow when I lose power off/on. When power off, the tank drains like what you described yours does. When it comes back on, it must not get the...

    Durso pipe gurgles

Thanks. There is an adjustable valve in the drain (in the sump box). I did play around with it to raise the level some, it worked.. but when I lose power I had issues. I guess the syphon wouldn't take right away when power comes back on (and pump starts) because the tank would overflow. The way...

    Durso pipe gurgles

Thanks. I had used that article on DIY Dursor pipes when making mine. My hole on the top is already pretty big. 90% of the time it works fine and doesn't gurgle. I have a pretty long run from my overflow to my sump where the pump is located (maybe 15 ft), so that may be why the level various a...

    Durso pipe gurgles

I built my own durso to combat the gurgling in the tank. The water level usually stays almost to the top of the 90 PVC. Every few minutes though, the water level fluctuates a bit and drops some. When that happens I get the gurgle for a few seconds, and when the water level raises back up it...

    octopus in synthetic reef tank

I have a tall cylinder tank with an artificial (synthetic) reef in the middle. Have some assorted fish and inverts. I wanted to add a small octopus to the tank. I have seen some articles that said the octopus (Abdophus spp.) wouldn't harm the fish and some other that said it would eventually eat...

    Tank overflowing

I installed a Durso pipe in my tank about 7 months ago to take care of the noisy overflow. My filtration goes into my basement (about 50ft pvc hose) sump box to filter the water. Everything was working fine. Now when my power goes off/on, and the water fills back up into the tank, it overflows...

    Cleaning advice for cylinder tank

thanks for all the ideas, but it doesn't look like they make these claws longer than 36". I need more like 48" or so to get to the bottm of my tank. What about some kind of vacuum hose that I could snake to the area, turn on, suck up the body and turn off. Anybody done anything like that or know...

    Cleaning advice for cylinder tank

Thanks! As long as its bendable so I can snake it down the side of the cylinder it may work. Anyone know where to but one of these (with a grabber).

    Cleaning advice for cylinder tank

Thanks, but a grabber wont work. As I said, there is not much room above the cylinder so I need something flexible that I can slide down and in between the reef. Almost like a vacuum hose that could suck it up.

    Cleaning advice for cylinder tank

I have a 5ft tall cylinder acrylic tank that has small access above. I have had a few fish die and basically had to let them sit at the bottom of the tank until they were eaten by the others. Do they make any type of vacuum hose etc. that I can slide down to the bottom and suck them up? thanks

Film build up on acrylic cylinder

Tank is about 8 months old. I have 2 SOL LED Modules. Is there something I need to add 2 the water, or possibly get some special fish/inverts to help control it

My artficial reef has 2 jets that circulate the water. My flow is good. The film builds up all over (even areas right next to the jets).
