    How to remove Phosphates

I have 150 gal reef tank and the red algae is starting to accumulate. I'm pretty sure my phosphates are high so want to reduce that in the tank, I had used the Thrive liquid phosphate remover in the past, but that is no longer available. What do you recommend?

Adding live anemones, frags and coral to artificial reef tank

I have a 3 yr old 6 ft tall, 28" diameter acrylic cylinder tank with an artificial reef insert going thru the center (from top to bottom). I have 2 AI LED light banks on the top. Slimey water on top of reef tank

I have a 6ft high 150 gal cylinder artificial reef tank that filters to a live rock sump in my basement. I also have a reef octopus skimmer in the sump. The tank has good circulation but the water on the very top is very slimey/bubbly, in fact its almost like oily spots in the water. What can I...

    Durso pipe gurgles

I built my own durso to combat the gurgling in the tank. The water level usually stays almost to the top of the 90 PVC. Every few minutes though, the water level fluctuates a bit and drops some. When that happens I get the gurgle for a few seconds, and when the water level raises back up it...

    octopus in synthetic reef tank

I have a tall cylinder tank with an artificial (synthetic) reef in the middle. Have some assorted fish and inverts. I wanted to add a small octopus to the tank. I have seen some articles that said the octopus (Abdophus spp.) wouldn't harm the fish and some other that said it would eventually eat...

    Tank overflowing

I installed a Durso pipe in my tank about 7 months ago to take care of the noisy overflow. My filtration goes into my basement (about 50ft pvc hose) sump box to filter the water. Everything was working fine. Now when my power goes off/on, and the water fills back up into the tank, it overflows...

    Cleaning advice for cylinder tank

I have a 5ft tall cylinder acrylic tank that has small access above. I have had a few fish die and basically had to let them sit at the bottom of the tank until they were eaten by the others. Do they make any type of vacuum hose etc. that I can slide down to the bottom and suck them up? thanks

Film build up on acrylic cylinder

I have a 70" high acrylic cylinder tank, with artificial reef in the middle. It seems after about a week, a light film appears on parts of the cylinder. It comes right off with a mighty magnet, but wondering if there is something I can do (or specific fish to buy) to prevent it. thanks

    Tank Cleaning

I have a 6 ft tall cylinder tank that is impossible to reach the bottom for cleaning. Unfortunately, a fire shrimp shed his skin and small damsel die. I need some type power vaccum that I can get to the bottom and suck them up with. It will need to be flexiable as there are some curves etc. I...

    Feeding advice

My tank is almost done cycling and I am preparing to put in my first fish and critters this weekend. Can someone recommend a good feeding product that will handle both fish, reef critters (also plan on adding coral down the line)? Also, what would be a good schedule for feedings (couple times a...

    Feeding options

Still cycling my tank, but I want to start getting ready for feeding when I put my inverts and fish in tank. Unfortunately, access to the top of my tank is a little difficult so I'm wondering if there are "safe" alternative ways to feed. I have a sump tank with Fiji liverock that the water...

Starting Cycle - Help on Testing water

Just filled my new tank last Friday to start cycle. Using live Rock filter box. Do I need to also put dead shrimp in Live Rock box for cycle? What is a good test kit to use for water and how often do I need to test water before putting live things in?

    Durso Standpipe

New 5ft tall cylinder tank and the overflow had the gurgle issue. I read about the Durso standpipe to remedy the issue. Made one out of 1.5 PVC and put in adjustable air valve on the top (opens to about 3/8 max). This definitely made it better, but I'm still seeing some issues. Every minute or...

    What to put in first

My 6ft, 150 gallon cylinder aquarium just got filled today. Has an artificial reef going down center and Carribsee argonite live sand on the bottom. Filters to a live Fiji Rock box underneath. Going to let it run for a day to cycle, but want to get something in the tank. What are some good...

    Artificial Reef critters

Just getting started. I have a 6ft tall acrylic cylinder tank with artifical reef purchased from livingcolor down the center (takes up about 3/4 of the width of the tank). I'd like to put in more critters (clams, shrimp. crabs etc.) than fish. Wondering what types of these go together and can...
