    Guppy Advice on Bullying

Nothing is written in stone when it comes to fish behavior and there is no way for us to correct it other than just removing the troublemaker. Tank size, hiding places, adding more fish etc can balance out the aggression, maybe, sometimes. Overstocking certain fish reduces the aggression, I do...

    One of my fish died......

    You answered your own posting.

Hello - Also from Canada. Fish dying after a month.

I agree with Aiken Drum. You should have taken some of the filter media from the "old" tank and mixed it with the media in the "new" filter instead of the water. Doing this would have sped up the cycling process. Most of your beneficial bacteria resides in the filter.

Thoughts on buying stock from a fleamarket pet seller

The fish being sold don't necessarily have to be sick, can they be any worse than some of the big stores? Look at the fish and how they look, buy if you like just keep it/them separated for a few days.

    Cichlid Fry

Nothing written in stone for these fish. I started out with a mating pair, great parents and protective. The male wanted more, female said no, he killed her. I took out the male now I have a tank with about 15 one inch or more convicts. I'm sure a war will break out in the tank, but at this...

Tiger Barb hiding in top back corner.

More than 5 would be better but then you only have a 20 gallon, I'm assuming it's a 20 long? These fish swim a lot, they are super active and at times behave like having ten five year old kids in a small room for a long time. You just got those barbs, give them a week or two to acclimate to the...

Why aren't your fish eating that?

    Sudden pH drop!

Scenario... 55g, 14 mbuna two canister filters, tank has been established and stable for years, ammonia is always zero, temp always 78f, never overfeeding. Did half tank water change day prior and I have a habit of checking pH after a big WC since I had a pH crash once before right after the WC...

    55 gal tank replacement

I would worry more about the bacteria in your filter.

I need help - Is my tank too small for a pleco?

If it is a common pleco, do yourself and the fish a favor, return it or give it to someone with a big tank. I've seen 20-inch plecos inside a 55g and it is not a good thing.

    Resealing a tank.

I think this is a case of bad communication on my part. I would never go as far as removing the panels, I guess I should have asked if the condition of the silicone holding the panels is anything to be concerned about before doing the re-seal but I think I'm making too much of this. In any case...

10 gallon snail infestation. At my wits end.

No need to give up. A ten gallon is not a problem to clean up... correct? The betta can very comfortably be in a temporary small tank or even a 5-gallon bucket you can get for a couple of dollars while you clean the tank. The live plants will probably be a problem bringing the snails back to the...

    Resealing a tank.

Waiting for a tank to start leaking? Not sure this is the way I want to go. The silicone is practically gone or lifted from the glass. This is not an emergency; I have since purchased a new one to replace the old tank. I now would like to take my time re-sealing the old tank, anyone with advice...

    Resealing a tank.

My 40g breeder's silicone after 10 plus years of use started showing signs of silicone separating from the glass in many spots and I knew sooner or later it was going to be trouble. I went and purchased a new one from Petco, not the dollar a gallon sale but I was able to get one for around $85...

    Secondhand aquarium, leak?

Well, at least it sounds like you don't have any fish in it yet? I have almost the same size loaded with fish, got it new about ten years ago and it's starting to show the black under the silicone. I am not taking chances so I'll have to buy another one and replace it. I'll do the re-seal on the...

    Tank cycling starting?

Something is going right. Cycling can seem like a long process. Just curious, what filter are you using?

Black spots between silicone and glass?

As the title says...I'm assuming these are gaps between the glass and the silicone? The black stuff is not on the outer part of the silicone.

    Secondhand aquarium, leak?

Oh boy, I'm not sure I would get any sleep if I had to re-seal my own tank. What size tank is it? You might just be better off getting a new one, peace of mind.

    Advice on upgrading tanks

Put the fish in a pail, (Im sure you have one for water changes) When you're ready to switch tanks, then transfer them to the new tank. Use the filter from the old tank that is already established in the new tank.

    Filtering

White stuff... is it a film or actual particles? I usually run overstocked tanks most of the times and also run canisters but to get rid of the film on the surface I have to break the water surface either with a HOB or bubbles.
