I'm moving into a home with a water softner and would like to have a discussion as to the pros and cons. No big deal right, just a wee bit of salt ? Talk to me what do I need to know...

Depends on what kind of fish you are keeping.

It's not an issue for the Cichlid but could be for the loaches. :^s
If there is a bypass to the softener, depending on the chemistry of that water, you may need to use that instead of the softened water.
